Pretty Much Paleo

What the heck is all this stuff about Paleo?  Why do you keep talking about Paleo?  Why are you even on a diet?

Basically, we eat crap.  Does it ever strike you as being weird that even though the number of people on low fat "healthy" diets has drastically increased, so has the number of cases of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease?  Shouldn't that number go down as we are becoming more "sophisticated" in our nutrition education?  Why do children and teenagers today develop a LOT earlier and tend to sport a spare tire or muffin top?  Isn't it also a coincidence that most "real" diets require that you severely limit carbs/grains/starches?  Hmmm... maybe it's because it works!

The Paleo lifestyle is a way to eat and live based on what food is healthy for your body.  This isn't based off the recommendations of doctors who honestly don't know the science behind what our bodies can actually digest.  It's based on science and what happens to food when we eat and digest it.  Did you know that eating grains (yes, even bulgar wheat and whole wheat pasta) pretty much rips up your intestines? Did you know that humans didn't start developing obese figures or cardiovascular disease until about 10,000 years ago, which, coincidentally is also when agriculture first became popular?

I'm not saying that I know everything about the science behind Paleo, nor am I saying that I'll never have a plate of nachos or a cupcake again.  I am saying that I do want to live a long and healthy life.  I also know that I feel good when I eat good food.  I also know that eating Paleo isn't really all that hard, so why wouldn't I do it?

Some people say, "yeah, but I like potatoes/pasta/bread" Well, that's like me saying, "I like chocolate chip brownies" I can like them or even love them, but they aren't good for me and they make me fat!

In this blog, I'm going to try my best to really feature yummy and easy Paleo recipes.  Basically, I try to avoid grains (even rice- which is hard, as I'm half Filipino!!!), dairy, starches, and any sort of artificial preservatives.  I focus a lot on grassfed, antibiotic meats, organic veggies and organic fruits.  Occasionally, I'll throw in some dairy, as this somewhat of a gray area.  Yes, buying food from Whole Foods is expensive.  Yes, I do have to pay a lot more, but you know what?  I'd rather spend more money on good food now, than a heck of a lot more on medical bills because I've been stuffing my body with hormones and antibiotics, wouldn't you?

Here are a few resources that I LOVE to frequent that will better explain the Paleo/Primal lifestyle. There will be more to come... if you have any suggestions, let me know!
